Mayfly
In Hungary, Palingenia longicauda, a large, 12 cm long insect, is the ephemera of the river Tisza. Every year, between May and June, it causes a phenomenon known as May Flight, or Tisza Flowering. After the hatching of the larvae, millions of adult ma- le ephemerals barely a few hours old fly over the river water, frantically trying to mate. The females, once fertilised, will rush to lay eggs, which will sink into the slime of the river bed, where they will incubate until the new larvae hatch.
