Hope of Tomorrow
This photo of mine was taken in Ethiopia in Lalibela, located over 2,600 meters above sea level and a Unesco heritage site since 1978, with its 11 underground monolithic churches built in the 12th century and connected by an intricate system of tunnels. In 2017, I was lucky enough to document the feast of St George, patron saint of Ethiopia, in the church of Beta Giorgis. Around the church, which descends almost 13 meters into the rock, worshippers gather, co- ming from all over Ethiopia, to receive a blessing from the priests.
